UTMB
It's the UTMB this weekend. Runners have 46 hours to complete approx 104 miles of trails, with circa 31,500 feet of ascent. I walked a variation of the route around 2006 on a ten-day holiday and it's amazing, awe-inspiring and frankly terrifying! We have a few friends doing the event this year in particular Martyn All the best to everyone taking part. There's a fair chance we'l be monitoring progress over the next couple of days on-line. Martyn's number is 659 if anyone else is interested

Dotty and Bonny
A beautiful ska record from 1964. Going out to my twin brother in Australia. It'll be Friday for him now and the (spring) sun will have risen already. 1964 was the year we were born
A weekend on the moors
Stef and I spent the bank holiday weekend in the Bilsdale area of the North York Moors. We stayed at Easterside Farm which was a great base for sightseeing and walking and running. We also had some splendid food, including a spectacularly good plate of fish and chips at Scotts in Hemsley
The heather on the moors had to be seen to believed and was just one of the highlights of the 22 mile walk we did on Sunday. This was our longest walk or run for over a year but we plan on visiting the area again for Lakeland 100 training because the hard-pack tracks and paths are very similar to those used in the Lakes event

The Beer Engine
We missed Wednesday night's club run but I managed to get over for a quick pint to the Beer Engine in Skipton. The Engine has been dubbed Skipton's first micro-pub and I was very impressed with the friendly welcome we received, the great selection of beer on offer and the quality of the beer. Highly recommended!

Spadgers
House sparrow seem to have had an amazing year for breeding. Our neighbours have a veritable sparrow factory under their roof and their birds must have had at least three broods since the spring. Watching the young birds in the garden the last few days has made up to a degree for the rapidly diminishing numbers of swift in village airspace. They'll be all gone for their winter holidays soon and won't be back until late April or early May next year
