Classic Wednesday nighter

There was a great turn-out for last night's social run from the Lion with (I'm guessing) around 20 runners and a couple of dogs. We ended up doing a greatest hits package of, for me, the best bits of our normal routes without getting too lost. Perfect conditions too for running ie cool and dry, plus sausages and chips afterwards.  Roll on next week!

Streaking again

We've been out for a twenty odd minute jog round the village this evening. On January 1st we're doing the Steeles' Hardmoors 30 and some training is necessary. Weight needs to be shed too. I've done two streaks before. The first was 52 days (it ended the night I found out my mum had cancer, January 22 last year), and the second ended after 60 days around this time last year. I've time for a streak pb before the 30 but I'm not setting a target (yet)

Welsh inspiration

Stef and I spent the weekend in Snowdonia; "glamping" in a wooden hut by Trawsfyndd lake to be exact. In spite of us neither running, or even walking very far I came back fired up by the mere presence of the Welsh mountains. We drove by the Southern most section of the Paddy Buckley on the way home and the hills thereabouts would be well worth exploring properly some time in the future

North of Heaven

New Edwyn Collins film

I saw Orange Juice twice in Nottingham in the (very) early 80's. Firstly at the Boat Club and the other time on the opening night of the Rock City supporting the Undertones; arguably the best gig I've ever seen. I saw Edwyn in Derby too around the time of his Gorgeous George album (1993?). I'll never forget him coming on in double denim and opening with a solo acoustic version of Northern of Heaven. Anyway there is a new film out about Edwyn's recovery from the strokes he had in 2005 and it looks terrific!

Back to the Lion

It was back to the winter home of KCAC's Wednesday night social runs last night: the White Lion at Kildwick. Sam and I did five and a bit miles with a good number of the usual suspects (Brett, Frase, Lorna, Milly etc) in increasingly wet conditions. As usual it was then into the pub for free food and a pint or two. It was good to be back in spite of the soaking

Dreada dread dub

I'd never heard of this mid-70's collaboration between King Tubby and Jacob Miller until this morning. The album is rarer than rocking horse manure apparently and currently seventy quid on amazon!

Promises

I played Sam the singles going steady compilation album yesterday. Buzzcocks were the first band I ever really loved. I think he got it. Next stop King Tubbys or James Brown?

Tweed, brogues and a decent haircut

Sam in his new jacket, a pair of brogues and sporting a decent haircut now after an unfortunate visit last month to the barber we'll forever call the Ilkley Slasher!
