I'm back in Dhaka airport waiting for my flight home via Dubai. The week has been the usual rollercoaster of emotions. More ups and downs, frustrations but some memorable meetings with lovely, kind and generous folk. It's around ten years now since my first overseas business trip and I love the way of life but sometimes hate it. However, I don't think I'd do anything different; I'm a lifer I guess
Hey up DT
ReplyDeleteDo you ever manage get out for a run, while you are away?
I used to visit Porto, in Portugal and Tel Aviv, in Israel quite regularly and run on the seafront at both. Tel Aviv to Old Jaffa Port and back early in the morning or when the sun was setting was a fave run!
ReplyDeleteIn Asia the best I manage generally is to use hotel gym but I'm not a gym person and miss the moors and the wildlife at home. Some stretching, standing on one leg to strengthen ankles and some squads is another option. Not like running in the Dales mind!
Interesting DT. I've been going to India for getting on for 10 years now and 'rollercoaster' is the way I always describe life there. You never really know what's around the next corner. Which can be compelling and exciting but also frustrating.
ReplyDeleteI did manage to run the 1996 Bombay marathon which involved a 3-4 week taper in Pune. I actually found the urban running good fun; although Pune is not a massive city and I was out into farmland quite quickly.
When we're in central, rural India leopards are an issue as the farm borders jungle belt. I've also run in Kerela, although that was quite sapping due to high humidity.
I think you should certaily give it a go DT. It will be an interesting blog entry if nothing else :)
