Blue for boys and red for girls

We've been out this morning with Tussock for a 90 minute or so run from home.  We went out along the Dales Way to Bolton Bridge, then back by Haw Pike farm and down through the golf course. Porridge and Yorkshire tea followed for humans after a much needed shower. Tussock had Marmite toast and he's now snoozing in front of the fire. All is well in the world (well apart from our broken kettle, but plans are afoot to sort that)

First watch

November floods

A couple of phone-camera snaps of the flooding this morning in Addingham. A local resident said he'd seen nothing like it in over 40 years of living in the village

Closed for business

I started work in 1982 at Stevensons Dyers at Ambergate in Derbyshire. Then there were around 1,400 staff involved in the dyeing and finishing of knitting yarn,  garments (knitted jumpers and cardigans) and hosiery (socks and tights). I left in 1997 after being made redundant as our industry contracted and moved off-shore. Within 18 months I'd started a new career selling dyes and chemicals into companies like my previous employer. Yesterday I drove past the former site of the dyeworks (it closed completely around 10 years ago), and I couldn't resist stopping to take a few quick photographs. I've travelled the world (one day I will tot up how many countries I've visited) earning a living from what I learnt at Ambergate and there aren't many days when I don't think about the fantastic people I worked with there

Racing!

Tonight's outing will be my 70th run in 70 days, and will make for a new streak pb of ten days. Stef and I have already entered two races now for next year (the shorter of them is a marathon), and the other is already over-subscribed. There's talk of a 50 mile plus event in the spring and even collecting UTMB points. There's also talk of some more structured traing and a new streak for Stef. Things are getting serious!

Day 64

I'm about to pop out into the cold and mist for my 64th run in 64 days. I'd forgotten how tough it is to "streak" after the clocks go back and last night was the closest I've got to not getting out.  In fairness it was the first day when I really didnt want to run and then mainly beacause of a 13 hour day at work. Ironically, and as is often the case, my run (a mile and a half on tarmac), was fine and I felt quite good

I set a target of running everyday until at least the end of the year but now I'm taking it one day at a time. Without being flippant that's how addicts cope with their addictions and it feels much more achievable than "I'll run another 50 days" or whatever
