Back

Stef and I are back running with a lovely run in the sun yesterday with our friend Richard up to the trig point above Chalker Reservoir and a plod along the Dales Way today; again with Richard. Yesterday we saw and heard our first chiffchaff of the year. Today we heard four more, plus spotted a sand martin too. It won't be long before common sandpiper, swallow, willow warbler, wheatear, swift, wood warbler etc are added to the list of birds which are back in Yorkshire

Loaded

We've met loads of smashing folk during the time we've been planning our wedding (more to follow) including several associated with St Peter's church Last Sunday there was a request for anyone with 30 or 40 minutes to spare first thing this morning to help load a hire van with food, household equipment, bedding etc for the people affected by the Somerset Levels flooding. 40 minutes after arriving at the top end of the village and the van was loaded

Haworth Hobble 2014

It was Haworth Hobble yesterday. Due to a lack of fitness (and the fact Stef is ill with GIRLflu) we didn't run. However I helped Brett out by marshaling at the Mankinholes YHA checkpoint. It was good to be involved in what was my tenth Hobble (seven ran in a pair, one solo, plus one time-keeping at the finish). The weather stayed dry and apart from me tempoarily 'losing' 97 runners for half an hour or so with a minor administrative error, it was good fun

Oooops!

I went flying on my run last night. There's a section of the Dales Way that is a pot-holed lane with no streetlights. One minute I was running along nicely head full of pleasant thoughts and the next I tripped and hit the ground hard. My glasses flew off and I lost the batteries in my Petzyl. My Pertex jacket and best Smartwool top both have holes in them around my left shoulder and I have cuts and abrasions on my left side from fore-head to left knee. I felt a bit shook up last night but don't feel too bad this morning. Six hours in the car today might not be a lot of fun mind!

Sub-Eight

It was eight weeks to go until our wedding on Saturday. Most of the bigger things (church, dress, rings, hotels, my cuff-links) are sorted now and we're largely down to fine-tuning and sorting our wedding day race

We spent the weekend in Devon and should have been running the Grizzly yesterday. Around the middle of last week we decided we are in no kind of shape to do a mostly runnable 20 miler so we spent the day with Stef's lads instead

I'm running out of time to lose some weight and my training is still all over the place with decent weeks logged then weeks when I get out once at best. Last week was a 'one runner', albeit a very enjoyable Wednesday head-torcher
