Comeback (yet again)

One of my Leicester customers, Mohan, said to me last month, that I'd put weight on. "Too many pakoras Andrew probably", he went on, helpfully, "and lay off the aloo paratha", (he knows me well). This led to yet another 'running comeback', and so far I've managed three runs per week for a few weeks. Tussock is always up for a run out, as you might guess!

My first bream on a lure and my first for well over 20 years I think. This fish was a real shock and brings up 19 different species of fish on artificials in 2017 (in fresh and salt water)

Catching the curry fever

It was my birthday recently and it coincided with one of my regular Leicester business trips. The Khyber is my go-to Monday night standby, but there was chance to go somewhere different for a change. It was time to (re)catch the curry fever!

The manager suggested I try a "Kenya Tusker" and when I ordered veg paratha, chicken shashlik and "black" daal he quietly said "good choice", and smiled. The food (which is classic Punjabi) was outstanding. I need to catch the fever more often in future

A night out in rural Leicestershire

This week my regular work trip to Leicester coincided with the FA replay between the Foxes and the Rams. My usual hotel was full and driving into town on match-night didn't make sense so I drove North to Barrow upon Soar, and stayed at the excellent Hunting Lodge However I walked down to the Bridge Inn for local beer, home-made lamb curry and chips plus footie related banter. The only downside was extra-time meant extra drinking time and I arose on Thursday morning feeling slightly fragile. I blame the Old Original the barmaid recommended

Leicester Diwali 2016

 

My regular two day visit to Leicester this week coincided with Diwali, the Indian festival of lights and Indian New Year. The Belgrave Road was lit up on Monday night (New Years day) and fireworks were being let off in abundance. The Khyber tandoori is a great standby on Mondays when many restaurants don't open and this week lamb curry was taken with the meat slowed cooked "country style" on the bone

Curry Fever

Excellent Punjabi food tonight at The Curry Fever in Leicester plus added EU referendum and travel banter with the staff. I promised to go back after June 23 for follow up discussions

Sayonara

I was in Leicester on Tuesday night for work and went to the Sayonara for my tea. The special thali would probably have fed two people and was great value. The city is still buzzing following the Foxes' recently confirmed Premiership win. I was born in Derby and am proud of my East Midlands roots. My father had family in Leicester and in spite of me supporting Derby County I was delighted that the Foxes won the Premier League title
